Math Tutoring Services

  • One-on-one math tutoring for students in grades 4 through 8
  • Learning works best when supported by regular instruction.
  • I typically see my students once or twice a week for 45 or 60 minutes.
  • If your child has fallen behind, I recommend starting with two sessions a week.
  • For students who meet grade level expectations or who seek math enrichment, once a week may be the optimal choice.

All lessons are one-on-one, individualized,
and tailored specifically to your child’s needs.

Math Tutoring ServicesProcess

  • Call to schedule a free 30 minute phone call. This gives me the opportunity to learn about your child, your hopes and concerns. It gives you the opportunity to get additional information and to have your questions answered.
  • Follow up with a free initial assessment. This informal assessment (about 45 minutes) allows me to get to know your child as a learner. I will assess your child’s math skills, learning style, and attitude to determine an optimal beginning level. This is, however, only the beginning. When I work with your child, assessment is not an occasional spot check, but an ongoing, integrated process. Working one-on-one allows me to avoid the artificial and unnecessary separation of teaching and learning from assessment.
  • Schedule one-on-one tutoring sessions.
  • Parent Communication. I’m available for questions and comments by phone and email and if time allows between sessions. In addition you can schedule meetings for evaluation and planning purposes.

Curriculum

  • For students who meet or nearly meet their school’s expectations, I support and supplement the curriculum used by their schools.
  • If your student has fallen far behind in grades, skills, understanding, or confidence, a different approach may be needed.
  • While the goal is still to help your child become a successful math learner in his or her school environment, we may need to start where your student is now, and work toward the school expectations in a gradual way, always supporting your student in the zone of optimal learning.
  • Together we look at what approach is most beneficial to your child, tailoring curriculum and instruction specifically to your student.

I’m looking forward to meeting you and your child.
